Colt Model 1911A1 U.S. Army .45 ACP - R.S. Inspected Serial Number 722980 (ca. 1941)

Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP serial number 722980 (ca. 1941) with matching numbered slide, RS inspector's mark on left side of the frame and CSR inspector's on the top of the frame near the disconnector. Pistol is one of the earliest known RS inspected variations.

Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP serial number 722980 (ca. 1941) - Close-up of RS inspector's mark below slide stop hole.  There is a P proof on the top of the slide, in front of the rear sight and alto a P on the left side of the frame near the magazine release button.

Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP serial number 722980 (ca. 1941) -The initials of Major Charles S. Reed (C.S.R.), Officer in Charge of Outside Inspection, were stamped on all M1911A1 pistols manufactured in 1940 and partially into 1941, signifying government acceptance of the pistol. Left side of receiver has Inspector mark RS inside a Box for Colonel Robert Sears. His initials were stamped on the left side of the receiver below the slide stop in accordance with Ordnance drawings. The initials C.S.R. for Major Charles S. Reed are also stamped on the top of the receiver near the disconnector hole to indicate provisional inspection.

Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP serial number 722980 (ca. 1941) - The barrel in this gun is marked COLT .45 AUTO on the left side, with the small G in front of the barrel lug on the underside of the chamber.  There is a P on the left lug.
